The detailed development plan for the area north of the Central Station was adopted by Gothenburg City Council on 22 April 2021 and has since been subject to several appeals. The Swedish Land and Environment Court of Appeal, which is the final instance court in this respect, delivered its judgment on 30 April 2024, confirming the detailed development plan and allowing plans for the Gothenburg region's new city centre next to the Central Station to begin to take shape.
The plan area is located in the central core of the region and in one of Gothenburg's most exciting development areas, i.e., between Gothenburg Central Station and the West Link (under construction). The detailed development plan permits the construction of dense and tall buildings that, in addition to railway station functions, can also be used for shops, offices, services, hotels, housing, education and healthcare. The detailed development plan includes buildings of up to 36 storeys, which form a group of taller buildings with a strong visual impact, and which act as a symbol of the growing city and region.
The plan area is fully integrated into the railway station area and the aim is to provide content for a mixed city in the part of the region where most people move about.
The planned gross area for construction in the area is approximately 140,000 square metres. The developer is Jernhusen AB.
Vinge acted as legal advisor to Jernhusen during the course of the project and as counsel in the proceedings before the Swedish Land and Environment Court of Appeal. Vinge's team primarily consisted of advokat Robert Deli and advokat Hampus Wahlberg.
