On 4 February 2023, members of the Price Cap Coalition (G7 plus EU and Australia) reached consensus on price caps for seaborne Russian-origin petroleum products falling under CN code 2710.

Foreign direct investments – what applies in conjunction with security-sensitive activities?

New Regulation on foreign subsidies – the Council and the EP has reached an agreement

On 30 June, the Council and the European Parliament reached a provisional political agreement on a new Foreign Subsidies Regulation, based on a proposal by the Commission of 5 May 2021.

New regulation regarding employer’s obligation to provide information and parallel employment

In March 2022, the Government presented a proposal for a new regulation on extended obligations regarding information about employment conditions and new clarifying rules on workers' rights to parallel employment under certain conditions. The updated regulation is based on a directive from European Union called “transparent and predictable working conditions in the European Union”.

Update on the EU, UK and US sanctions against Russia and Belarus

In the past few days EU, UK and US have issued sanctions against Russia and Belarus in response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Of particular importance is yesterday’s action by the US to sanction the two largest Russian banks, VTB Bank and Sberbank. UK has also sanctioned VTB Bank and it is not unlikely that EU will follow suit within short. Business dealings involving these banks, as well as all other sanctioned entities, will be severely affected. The sanctions can be summarised as follows:

The Swedish rules on cabotage transport and posting will change on 2 and 21 February 2022

The Swedish government has decided on a number of new rules concerning cabotage transports, combined transports, transport customer responsibility for driving and rest times and posting of workers.

The Swedish Government decides on amendments to regulations on cabotage transports

The Swedish Government has now decided to implement changes in the regulations concerning the conditions for foreign hauliers' freight transport in Sweden and the responsibility for customers ordering such transports. The Government's decision was prompted by a judgment from the Court of Appeal over Skåne and Blekinge in case B 3209-20, on 5 May 2021.

Vinge’s specialists within Maritime and Transport law have been requested to contribute with a chapter explaining the Swedish legislative framework in relation to maritime law in the International Comparative Legal Guides, ICLG.

Extensive amendments to the Swedish Protective Security Act - increased obligations and a comprehensive sanctions system

Extensive amendments to the Swedish Protective Security, which include increased obligations for operators of security-sensitive activities and a comprehensive sanctions system, are proposed to enter into force on 1 December 2021. These changes, which were presented in a Government bill of 18 March 2021, generate new and far-reaching obligations for many companies, especially in view of the severe sanctions that may be imposed if the obligations are not complied with.
